Process of Character 1 Part 1

The first portion of this consist of life drawing exercises to practice different perspectives and analyze the angles of the facial features. I took notes of the different lengths, style of line (curve or sharp), and alignment of facial features with the other features. I also made note of what is shown from a specific perspective. I made note of what can change the emotion of the facial features and found that the eyebrows are the most influential.

I decided for my first character I would create a shy and cautious character, but who is persistent in overcoming her awkwardness. As someone who has a degree in psychology, the human psyche and body language is extremely important in character design. Facial expressions are just important, but without the body language and knowing how a character may react to a certain situation based on the personality give to them, the character won't be as dynamic!

Finally, I did a quick sketch to establish and play around with the style I am interested in. As someone who has done mostly realistic portraits, I wanted to explore a different style. I found that I love the use of curve and organic lines compared to sharper lines.
